On April 23, 2009, the House Committee on Natural Resources Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, Oceans and Wildlife is schedule to hold a hearing for legislation that could effectively halt trade in thousands of nonnative species in the United States, including most birds, reptiles and fish and several mammals (hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and ferrets) commonly kept as pets.
