Hello,
I'm looking for other ferret owners in Navarro County/Corsicana so we can share info, compare notes, etc.
Couldn't find decent ferret dry food (kibble) locally, so I've switched my ferret over to raw meat (much healthier and a natural diet since ferrets are meat eaters).
HEB in Corsicana just started to carry 8-in-1 premium ferret food (which lacks nutritional value, but at least they're starting somewhere). Yesterday, I asked them to stock 8-in-1 FerretVite. I'll also write a letter to the manager providing them more information (complete product names, item #s). If anyone is interested in recommending their local stores add ferret products to their stock, let me know and we can work on a letter together. Maybe if they get enough requests, they'll stock the items we need/want.
Vets in Corsicana... not too ferret-friendly or knowledgeable.
Animal Care Clinic (3000 N Business 45, 903 872-4762) has provided the best care so far (vaccinations $10-20 each; rabies/canine distemper) and they don't hesitate to contact their resources if needed (to gather ferret-specific info). Walk-ins okay. If your ferret must see a vet in Corsicana, I recommend Animal Care Clinic.
Carroll & Beck Animal Hospital (2508 W 2nd Ave).. I DO NOT recommend for ferrets unless you are in your pet's presence the entire time and feel comfortable during entire visit. I took Weasel there once for flea medication and a nail trim. The receptionist who did the nail trim was AFRAID of ferrets and cut the nails improperly (my new owner mistake for letting her- Never Again!)
Corsicana Veterinary Clinic (1701 W 2nd Ave, 903 874-7226).. Haven't been there yet, but talked to them over the phone more than once. They are not too experienced in ferrets (seems no vets in Corsicana are) but are willing to see Weasel for basic, routine visits and can microchip ($30- have not done yet). Appointment is needed and they usually don't allow owners in the room while animal sees the vet..
Thought I'd share what I've learned regarding ferrets in Corsicana. If you take your ferret outside within city limits, he needs to be held or on a leash and city registration is required ($3 from Animal Control, lasts one year; bring your proof of rabies shot).
If you live nearby, say 'hi'
